Fagin's Hike of the Week: Humpback

Great views but a caution that this hike is not for everyone. You will need real good navigation skills as this is a an unmarked trail that has been getting some use so follow the boot path. However, no trail signs. Also parts of the trail near the top you go over some boulders.  Views are great and just west of Snoq Pass.and view of Mt. Rainier

Driving Directions; From Seattle, take I-90 East to Exit 47. Take a right at the exit and cross the bridge. At the 'T' (the pavement ends) turn right onto FS 55 (Tinkham Rd) and drive approx. 1.3 miles to an intersection and go left uphill onto the Hanson Creek Road (FS 5510). Drive uphill past the power line clearing and under the old railroad trestle for approx another 2.2 miles. At approx. 3.5 miles from the 'T' you'll see an old gated road on the left.  Park where you can find space and start hiking up the old road but do not block gate although you will find several GIANT boulders blocking the gate, GPS N 47.22.193 W 121.30.683 at 2858 feet

Trail Stats:   From the gate hike about  0.80 miles on the road and you will see a boot path on the right (no trail sign) but a orange ribbon with some rocks marking the trail. Then go UP. GPS waypoint is N 47.22.931, W 121.30.693 at 3222 feet.  Roundtrip is 4.4 miles, although I have seen other reports say 4 miles. Also a 2318 feet gain much of that over a short distance.
