KUOW Hike of the Week- Round Mountain

Driving Directions: From Yakima, drive west on U.S. Highway 12 for about 40 miles and turn onto the Upper Tieton Road. Drive 2.8 miles and turn right onto Forest Road 830. Follow this to its end, about 5 miles, to find the trailhead.

Trail Stats: 5 miles roundtrip and 1700 foot gain

Hiking while hot- tips
1.       Hike early in the day
2.       Part of hike in shade if can
3.       Hike on north facing slopes- south facing in sun is hot
4.       Water bring plenty of water 3 liters if out much of day. Can bring less if have filter and know if you are hiking by water source
5.       Hydrate in the car- I drink a liter on way to trail
6.       Sports drink –electrolytes should be one of the drinks you have
7.       If in the sun all day try to find some shade to take a break
8.       When done with hike good to have some cold water waiting in cooler
