Fagin's Hike of the Week: Blue Creek to Red Top

Updated: May 31, 2018

Snowfree hike with lots of wildflowers and great views of Mt. Stuart, Mt. Adams, and Mt. Rainier. You can drive almost to the lookout, but this makes for a great hike which it can easily be extended beyond the total of 6 miles that we have listed.

Driving directions: From Seattle take I -90 east to Cle Elum then take Hwy 970 east to US Hwy 97 and go north toward Blewett Pass. Just past Mineral Springs turn left on Forest Service Road No 9738 and go 2.7 miles and then turn left on Forest Service Road 9702 (it will say to Red Top Lookout). After 0.5 miles from the turn and on the right there is a tiny parking area for Trail number 1364.2. You can park here (room for 3 cars)  or there are other spots to park along the road that has pullouts.

Trail stats: Here is our track. Round trip is 6 miles. Hike 2 miles on Blue Creek Trail and then turn left on Teanaway Ridge Trail and go 1 mile to the lookout. You can extend this by going to Iron Bear.
