This hike is mostly (half the trip) on snow so you will need excellent navigation skills and be comfortable on snow. We carried our snowshoes and did not need them as the snow is consolidated. We started on the summer trail and the 1 mile or so was mostly snowfree and all snow after that. But that was on May 11 so now probably go 1.5 miles mostly snowfree. We were able to drive with 1/8 of trail as one needed a high clearance vehicle to get to the trail but that was on May 11 so we assume you can drive to the trail.
